Last night we had a bit of a scare when Malachi pulled a kitchen stool down onto himself. It landed directly on his big toe. OUCH!!!!! Today we saw Malachi's cardiologist. Things went well as far as going through the motions of the appointment. Sometimes he gets really fussy and it turns into a long day, but they decided to try it without sedation today (yeah!), and so that seemed to really help. September came and went... Sarah was back to school... John had a little relief from some pressures at work... Malachi is doing better and seems to be back to his normal self. He lost 4% of his body weight during the nasty bug so we need to make sure he keeps eating and growing. Since Friday, he seems to be eating a normal amount again and everything is staying down.

We took Malachi back to the hospital on Sunday night at 11:30 p.m. because he continue to vomit and did not eat much at all on Sunday. After examining him, they concluded it is probably just a bug that is going around. He was put on an IV from 1:15-3:15 a.m. to re-hydrate him. We were on our way home by 3:45. He (and we) slept well till about 9 a.m. We will try to continue to get him to eat

We took Malachi to the emergency room today because he seemed like he might have been getting dehydrated. He had not been eating normally for two days and he was not making wet diapers anymore. Malachi was in today for his normal set of procedures. Today was encouraging as nearly all the readings appear better than they have in the past. We will be scheduled for our next appointment in 3 months which is better than the monthly visits we have been making. It was also told to us that Malachi will stay on oxygen for at least 6 more months before a decision is made about that treatment

Malachi was seen today by cardiology and medical genetics. There is little to report... his condition is stable and the things they have been tracking have stayed the same to very slightly improved. The plan is to continue "as-is" until he is seen six weeks from now in mid-July.

Malachi saw his cardiologist again this past week -- Thursday. There is little new to report other than the oxygen therapy is having a small positive effect on his lung pressure. Malachi is home and resting easy. He seems "normal" to us -- eating lots and getting in some good naps. Hopefully we'll get him back on our schedule and he'll sleep well at night. Malachi's treatment plan for pulmonary hypertension will be continuously administered oxygen. He will have to be hooked up to a portable oxygen tank that will go with us just like the diaper bag for an indefinite amount of time. This is just a quick reminder to everyone that Malachi's cardiac catheter lab appointment is tomorrow (Monday). We go in at 6:30am for his procedure. Following that he will continue to stay at St. Mary's through the day and overnight as they start him on some medication to lower the blood pressure between his heart and lungs. Malachi's Friday appointment with cardiology confirms that there are up to six issues with his heart ranging from "no big deal" to "concern". We are home! Malachi and Sarah were released on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. It has been fun to have him in our own environment. What a good sleeper he was last night. Malachi had an echocardiogram this morning. After reviewing it, the doctors have determined (at least for the time being) that there is no problem. For today, he is to be moved out of NICU at Saint Mary's Hospital and moved to Level 2 Nursery at Methodist Hospital. I wanted to take a minute to tell you all that Bella is a great movie! It's not playing in every theater, and The Chateau in Rochester is the only one playing it, but only for a limited time. It was only supposed to play through yesterday, but I just checked out their website and they currently have it scheduled for another week. Well, I'm not really sure where to start tonight. I guess I should begin by saying that we had our ultrasound at Mayo on Friday afternoon. Ok, so it appears that the ultrasound two weeks ago was not conclusive. Today we heard, "you are having a boy". I am more sure today that they are correct (you wouldn't think you could call it a boy by accident). If you have read on Ron & Ebby Ray's blog that we are having twins, we just want to make sure that you know that at the last ultrasound it was confirmed that there is ONE baby GIRL inside of Sarah. Ebby, sorry, no twins this time! Perhaps if we can figure out how to scan a picture and post it, we will do that later this week. Sarah is scheduled for another ultrasound on Thursday.
